So I put a 17 tooth freewheel on the back wheel. Combined with a 44 tooth chainring, this makes my gear ratio 2.59:1, which is equivalent to always riding around in 6th gear on the Nexus 8 speed internal hub I have on my commuter bike (Qimikom, 2:1 gears).
Making this bike single speed is only a temporary ordeal.
