monthly update

Again, still alive.  I broke 1000 miles and have been having a blast... I also broke some spokes after hitting a bump because I used spokes that were too long last time and overtightened them enough that they fatigued... so while I was waiting on shorter spokes, I ordered and received an A719 rim to make the wheel more rigid so that more spokes share the load...

So tonight I took the wheel off and cut the old spokes out and went the lace up the new wheel... and the spokes were way too long.  I'm going to see what needs to happen to make shorter spokes, but I've already noted that DT Swiss doesn't make double butted spokes below 238mm.  Right now I'm thinking I need 240mm, but we'll see.

And then of course I dropped the hub, and of course it landed on the most fragile part of the entire bike... so it messed up the 10 gauge magnet wire, cut two of the encoder wires, etc...  grrrrrroan.  Now that I have some idea on what I'm doing, replacing the wires shouldn't be too difficult -- maybe 5 hours of work -- but it's still going to be a huge pain in the rear.

I'm gonna go kick some rocks and work on my clumsy fingers.
