Variacity Yak

So to get the voltage I mentioned before for my homemade battery charger, I've decided to get a variac (see the pic). This is a pretty simple device: put 120VAC in one side, turn a knob on the top to whatever voltage you want on the output (3.65V/cell*24=87.6 Volts). Since this is AC and we need to charge with DC, I'm going to need a pretty big (30 Amp) rectifier. I'm gonna rummage through my rectifier drawer (yes, I have one) and see if I can find something big enough. I'll also need a 10,000uF 100 Volt capacitor to regulate the output to remove any ripple, etc...
So at 87.6 volts I can push 876 Watts per motor controller, which is 1752 Watts total; just shy of the 1800 Watts I can pull. I should definitely be able to charge from empty to full in under an hour.
